A Homecoming and a Mission: We're Headed to England
Mark and I, with the boys, are making the long drive from Romania to England. As we reconnect with loved ones and meet potential supporters, the ministry at home continues through challenge and prayer! We’re trusting God for provision in a season of transition, and inviting you to walk with us into what’s next.
What Happens When You Come to Romania With Open Hands
You don’t need a special skill to make a difference here, just a willing heart! From students to families, our visitors come to serve and often leave changed. Whether painting a room, sharing a meal, or praying with a widow, each moment becomes part of the quiet Gospel work happening in Romania. This is your invitation to come and see it for yourself!
The Sewing Machines Are Quiet, But God Is Not
The sewing machines have gone quiet, but God is still at work. As our artisan workshop slows and local needs rise, we find ourselves in a season of listening. We don’t know what’s next, but we’re asking for clarity, provision, and the courage to follow where He leads. If you’ve ever wondered how to make a lasting impact, we invite you to partner with us.
What Love Looks Like in a Widow’s Kitchen
Earlier this summer, a team of Torchbearers International students helped transform the home of a widow in our village, replacing cardboard floors. As they scrubbed, painted, and listened, the Gospel took shape in quiet acts of love. Now we’re preparing to return with another team in July to finish what was started. If you’ve ever wondered what missions really look like… this is it.
What Happens After the Games Are Over?
On International Children’s Day, our village was filled with laughter, games, and bright-eyed joy. But what lingered after the prizes were handed out wasn’t just fun, it was the Gospel. For many of these children, it was a rare moment of being seen, celebrated, and surrounded by love. This is why we do what we do.
Paul and Silas, Campfire Bread, and the Seeds of Faith
What do chocolate, a campfire, and the Apostle Paul have in common? This month, we gathered village children around an open fire, shared the story of Paul and Silas in prison, and watched the Gospel come alive through songs, games, and stick-baked bread. For many, it was their first taste of joy rooted in belonging and perhaps their first real encounter with Jesus.

Celebrating 26 Years of Mission Work: Lessons from a Life of Service
Today marks a significant milestone in my life—26 years since I embarked on a mission that reshaped my entire existence. Today, Maria Naomi’s nonprofit programs carry on the legacy of what started 26 years ago.

Navigating Winter’s Challenges at Maria Naomi
This winter at Maria Naomi, the season’s chill has brought with it an urgent need for warmth and care, particularly for our elderly residents. Thanks to the outpouring of support from our global community of donors—friends from Romania, England, and America—we have been able to meet these needs with love and timeliness.
5 Ways to Prepare for a Short-Term Missions Trip
Taking your first step into missions is exciting, life-changing, and, let’s be honest, a little intimidating. Whether you’re heading across the globe or serving in a neighboring community, preparation is key to making the most of your experience and being an effective part of God’s work.
How Donated Christmas Boxes Transformed our Village
This Christmas at Maria Naomi, the spirit of giving transcended borders, filling our little Romanian village with stacks of Christmas boxes sent from our generous donors across the globe.
Short-Term Missions: Join us in Romania in 2025
When I first arrived in Southern Romania in 2009, I thought I was coming to serve, to bring help and hope. What I didn’t expect was how deeply God would work in my own heart through the ministry. That week changed my life, and it’s why I keep coming back to Maria Naomi’s headquarters every year since that first trip in 2009.
Meet the Darvells: Founders of Maria Naomi
In 1999, I couldn’t have imagined how one simple ‘yes’ to God would lead to a ministry that touches entire families and communities. From leading Bible studies to creating jobs through our sewing workshop, our family has embraced a mission to bring practical help and the Gospel’s light to Southern Romania.
The Role of Employment in Uplifting Underserved Communities
For many Roma families, daily life revolves around survival. Employment opportunities are scarce in rural Romania, and discrimination makes finding steady work even harder. Factories rarely hire Roma workers, and when they do, it’s often for the lowest-paying, least secure positions. Seasonal agricultural work or collecting recyclable materials are often the only ways to earn an income.
The Gospel at Work in Our Artisan Workshop: Part Two
I often think about how their stories are intertwined with the mission of Maria Naomi. By providing meaningful work, we’re not just addressing immediate needs but helping women build a foundation for long-term stability.
The Gospel at Work in Our Artisan Workshop: Part One
One of the first women to join our workshop came to me in desperation. Her husband had left to work in Germany, leaving her alone to care for their two daughters with no income. At the time, I didn’t have work to offer her, and it broke my heart. I prayed for a way to say “yes” to her.
What Began with a Prayer: The Maria Naomi Story
When we say, “God loves you” or “God cares for you,” we can show it through practical actions. One woman once told me, “If God loves me, why don’t I have food for my children?” That question stuck with me. Providing her with a job was the answer—not just for her immediate needs but for her long-term growth.
Business as Mission: The Maria Naomi Story
The Maria Naomi Workshop is more than a workplace; it’s a space where women gain skills, grow in faith, and support their families with dignity. By valuing their craftsmanship and preserving their independence, we reflect God’s love in practical ways, transforming lives and uplifting communities.
